A small school usually has trouble being competitive at multiple sports.
The WORST thing to do is be negative with these kids. Forget wins and losses...The kids are playing hard and want to win. Youth is a tough challenge in any sport. It's one thing to lose and not care, but it is another to play as hard as the kids have this year.
Again, sports is about cycles.
I would have to agree about small schools being competitive in multiple sports. But, I have to disagree with the idea that this is just a "cycle" for Clintwood.
With no disrespect intended to the other athletes, the last time Clintwood was truly competitive in any sport was during the Justin Hamilton years. But realistically athletes of that caliber don't come along that often.
Clintwood had some tremendous success with the girls basketball teams in the late 80's, but they haven't had that caliber of boys basketball team in many years - if ever.
The biggest issue here though is still not about wins and losses. Even if by some chance of fate Clintwood had a state championship caliber basketball team, I'm still not sure the students and the community would be supporting a basketball program. The message seems to be "Clintwood is a football town and we don't care about basketball."

i agree, they are well coached
cvcgrad...Maybe that is the message you want to portray, but any team that is 3-10 will have issues with fan support. The kids are playing hard and that is all that matters. I am all for the "support 'em no matter what," idea, but a majority of any teams fans come and go with winning. I remember a few years back when Honaker played Haysi over at Honaker in a Region D playoff game how empty the visiting side was. This year, the Haysi side during the Region D playoffs was full. Bandwagon? It's a part of sports.
Clintwood has a coach that cares I seen him coach a 7th grade team before that tells me he knows where the work has to be done before he can be very good
